Details of this tour
Goerlitz is the most Eastern town of Germany. It is located on the once most important trade road of Europe, the “via regia”. Long before Dresden and other towns became famous, Goerlitz was one of the richest towns in the middle of Europe. Goerlitz is a “treasure chest of the Renaissance”. Here you find the oldest secular Renaissance styled building of Germany. You can get an understanding of this former wealthy town while strolling with me from the Upper Market along many Renaissance styled buildings to the Lower Market. Houses with balconies, and large interior halls inside the buildings will undoubtedly fascinate you. The cathedral of “St. Peter” has a world famous organ. This “Sun Organ” has beside the usual organ pipes some pipes which are installed radially around 18 golden sun-faces. These particular pipes can imitate special sounds. The town offers wonderful possibilities to have lunch. You will also have some free time for individual discovery and shopping. A visit the “Holy Sepulchre” is planned in the afternoon. This sepulchre is a 15th century copy of the one in Jerusalem.
